You're probably busy working on papers and other assignments, but if you need a break and are looking for something fun to read, check out our Recreational Reading Collection, located on the first floor between the Circulation Desk and the Reference Collection. You'll find more than 1,000 books that might be fun or enjoyable to read in your leisure time.

Save Your Work!

As the end of the semester approaches, you're busy writing papers, making spreadsheets, creating presentations, etc. Unfortunately, sometimes computers crash, freeze or experience other problems.

Don't lose all your hard work -- remember to SAVE frequently!

FYI: You can buy a CD-R (with jewel case) for $1.00 or a floppy disk for 25 cents at the Circulation Desk.

The INFOPASS: How to Borrow Books From Other Local College Libraries

Attention students! The end of the semester is fast approaching ... does another local college library have a book you need for your research? Take advantage of the Library Access Project and apply for an INFOPASS. This card will allow you to check out books from most other college libraries in Western New York.

To apply, please bring your NU ID card to the Reference Desk on the first floor and talk to the reference librarian on duty.

(please note: NU faculty and staff are also eligible to apply for an INFOPASS.)

Citing Electronic Sources

LibQUAL Survey - Summary Results

In the spring of 2003, Niagara University Library conducted a patron survey designed to measure patron perceptions of Library service quality using an instrument called LibQUAL. Take a look at the Summary Results.

In the Library Catalog, you can limit your search to only retrieve electronic books from the ebrary collection. How? Simply click Advanced near the top of the Basic Search screen and then refine your search by choosing the Electronic Book - ebrary collection in the Limits section.

Try ebrary, our electronic book collection. ebrary contains more than 15,000 high-quality books covering many different subjects.

These books are not freely available on the Web but are the electronic versions of the kinds of books you will find in college libraries. After you install the ebrary reader, you can view the books exactly as they look in print form!

View Satellite Images With Google Maps!

Google Maps, the new tool that creates dynamic and interactive maps, is now providing satellite and aerial images on a test basis. When using Google Maps, try this new feature by clicking the "Satellite" link at the upper right hand corner.

Reference Librarian Departs NU

Reference Librarian Tom Stieve has left the University. We wish him luck and thank him for his dedicated service.

Attention Movie Watchers! The Library Now Has Recreational DVDs!

The Library is in the process of building a Recreational DVD Collection of approximately 150 films and will add 30-40 new titles per year. About 75 DVDs are currently available for checkout. Examples of DVDs in this collection include Alien, Friday Night Lights, Mean Girls, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Singin' in the Rain, just to name a few.

Some things you should know about the Recreational DVD Collection:

• Recreational DVDs are arranged alphabetically by title.
  
• You may borrow up to 3 recreational DVDs at a time.
  
• The loan period for recreational DVDs is 7 DAYS.

Please note: to support your research needs, there are also some educational DVDs shelved in the General Collection. Educational DVDs are shelved with books in their subject areas and may be checked out for 28 days. Please see a reference librarian for more information.
